Oman Tours: Turtle Reserve - Ras Al Jinz

If you are planning an Oman Tour, make sure you go visit the turtle Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. Well, Oman is also an extremely popular eco-tourist spot with turtle viewing being a popular activity. The country is home to four different species of turtle; the endangered Green Turtle, the Olive Ridley Turtle, the Loggerhead Turtle, and the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle. So, let’s delve deep and understand how you can make turtle reserve a part of your Oman tour.

When to visit?

If you want to see turtles hatching in Oman, May to September is the best time. Here, the temperature also ranges between 25°c to 36°c. During the peak season, you will be able to see more than 100 turtles during the Oman tour. Generally, you will be able to see the turtles all year round. Not hundreds of them, but a few here and there. However, during the low seasons, you may not see any. Hatching of the turtles takes place during the night when the turtles come out of the water, and dig a hole in the sand to lay eggs. Once they are happy with the way they have laid the eggs, they go back into the water.

It takes 55 days for the eggs to hatch and you will see the baby turtles make their way out and go into the waters.

The Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve Museum

Today, sea turtles are an endangered species and the local Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve is doing its best to educate the locals and visitors about the creatures and how we can make it better for them. Here, you will be introduced to all the seven species, where you will be able to understand their migration process and more.
