Set off to explore Wahiba Wilderness.

Start early in the morning from Muscat. Ensure to dress in light clothing and a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

Wadi Bani Khalid

Travel about 250 km further to reach Wadi Bani Khalid.

Stop for at least 01 hour here. Carry your swimsuit as the Wadi has clear deep blue, cool water that tempts you into diving right in!

Wahiba Sands

Proceed to The Wahiba Sands located about 120 kms from Wadi Bani Khalid known for its exotic desert beauty.  Travel to the Wahiba Sands is a mesmerizing experience. You would go on a jeep-tour  through the white, black, orange and golden dunes of the desert.
Sit back and enjoy your ride as our skilled driver maneuvers through the ever-changing colours of the desert sand!

Visit a Bedouin settlement

Visiting the Wahiba Sands calls for a stopover by a Bedouin family. Bedouins are the group of nomadic Arabic people who consider themselves as ‘true Arabs’!

This stopover comes as an OPTIONAL one that includes added charges. If need be, you would halt for 30 min before proceeding to the next destination.

Leave to witness some historic moments as you visit the ancient towns of Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman and was once a center for trade and education. It is a conservative town that accommodates some of the renowned mosques and an ancient fort called the Nizwa Round Tower Fort. Visit Al Hamra , Wadi Ghul , Misfat Al Abriyeen before visiting to picturesque Grand Canyon.

You will then be headed to the historic town of Nizwa, Oman’s cultural capital. Nizwa is famous for its massive circular cannon tower, antiques and silver jewelry. You will visit the ancient Nizwa Fort whose history dates back to the 12th century. It was built by Sultan Bin Saif Yaruba, the first imam of the Yaruba Dynasty. When inside the fort, you’ll be thrilled to pass through its ancient doorways, narrow staircases and corridors, high-ceiling halls, and a maze of rooms. As Nizwa is a town that is surrounded by date palms, one can enjoy an amazing view of the entire town and its date plantation from the top of the hand-carved ceremonial daggers, called the ‘khanjars’, and ornate silver jewelry.

Fort timings: tower. You would then pass through the traditional Nizwa souk, a place where you find Saturday to Thursday: Open from 9 am to 4 pm & Friday:  Open from 8 am till 11 am. Look from the top of the tower to enjoy a glimpse of the gorgeous mountains. And when in Nizwa, don’t forget to get some souvenirs back home!

Proceed approximately 50 kms & here, you will get to see 400-years-old, well-preserved, traditional mud houses, and experience the Falaj system.

Stop by for 30 min here before heading off to the canyons.

Wadi Ghul

Continue the journey for the next 15 km until you enter Wadi Ghul. Wadi Ghul is an abandoned village located in the north-western region of Al Hamra town of Oman. It a pretty village nearer to our next destination, Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak.

You’ll stop by for 30-45 min. Take a deep look into the Wadi Ghul from the canyons to enjoy a spectacular view!

Misfat Al Abriyeen

Misfat Al Abriyeen rises a thousand meters above sea level The place is characterized by its alleys, traditional buildings, high mud buildings, and agricultural terraces that wrap around the mountain, along with the old buildings. The locals resides at the top of the mountain and their farms are on the slope. It is said that the first house in Misfat Al Abriyeen village was built two hundred years ago.

Jebel Shams / Grand Canyon

Move ahead to visit the ‘Grand Canyon of Oman’. Jebel Shams is a mountainous region in the Al Hamra town. It nestles the highest mountains of Oman and is an important tourist destination. The word ‘Jebel Shams’ translates into ‘Mountain of the Sun’ since it receives the first sunrise of the region. A moderate temperature of the mountains during the summers make it an ideal location to beat the Arabian heat. People coming here indulge in various activities including hiking, exploring near-by villages, camping and star-watching, night photography, etc. The stunning view of Al Nakhr Canyon or The Grand Canyon of Arabia from Jebel Shams is sure to leave you spell-bound!

Drive to Jibrin Castle

You would go on a drive of around 215 km (approximately 2 hr. 30 min) to reach Jibrin , the next destination.

Jabrin Castle

Jabrin Castle is the best example that reflects Omani culture through its ancient Arabian style of workmanship. Jabrin Castle is one of the whimsical and well-preserved castles in Oman that was built in the 1600s. Don’t forget to observe the fine calligraphy etched into the walls, hand-painted ceilings, hand-carved door frames, decorative arches, windows and balconies, when here!

You’ll find an auto-guide that lasts 25 mins near the entrance that would fill you in with all necessary details.

Bahla

The next stop is at Bahla, a UNESCO World Heritage site town that lays in the Ad Dakhiliyah region of Oman. It is one of the oldest fortresses (13th-century fortress) in the country.

Jebel Akdhar

Proceed to Jebel Akdhar known as ‘The Green Mountain’, is a part of the Al Hajar Mountains. This mountain range is mostly composed of limestone and forms one of the highest peaks in Oman. Jebel Akhdar is famous for its gardens, farms and terrace plantations. Visit Wadi Habib to see one of the remote villages and fruit plantations. Also visit one of the private terrace rose plantations. (Jan – Feb is the season every year).

Bilad Sayt

Move about 120 km ahead to reach the ‘fairy-tale’ village, Bilad Sayt. Located at the slope of Al Hajar Mountains, Bilad Sayt is one of the most picturesque villages in Oman.

The scenic beauty of the village gives you a feeling of a place straight from fairy-tale!

Wadi Bani Awf – Snake Canyon

Proceed to The “Snake Canyon” a very narrow gorge situated in the middle of “Wadi Bani Awf”.  The wadi leads directly to the picturesque Snake Gorge,  which gets its name from the colubrine effect created by the mountains that "snake" through it. The gorge contains waterfalls emerging from its rocky walls, plenty of natural pools, and colossal boulders all around.
