The beautiful city encompasses some of the world’s ancient heritages and attractions, that transport you to another world as you take a lazy walk through the streets of Muscat. This day, head to Ras Al Jinz located on the eastern shores of the Arabian peninsula to witness the live birthing cycle of the green turtles. You get to witness the nesting process of the endangered green turtles at the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. The turtle reserve is one of the important tourist locations in Oman that provides its visitors with once in a lifetime opportunity to watch these turtles breed. This leg of the tour also covers the Azure saltwater pool, a charming valley of Wadi Shab, and an ancient heritage site called Qalhat.​

The Azure saltwater pool of Bimmah Sinkhole. You’ll start the day on a refreshing note by visiting Azure saltwater pool of Bimmah Sinkhole, located at an approximate distance of 130 km from Muscat. A sea water-filled depression, which is 30m deep is structurally a sinkhole. It is Locally known as, “PLACE OF POWER”. Here, you get to witness the most picturesque beauty of the desert while a cool breeze from the water, filled by limestone mountain rocks, splashes you with a dash of freshness.​ Sit and relax in turquoise blue magical sea​ water; you never know your feet are nibbled​ by the fishes too!​​
Wadi Shab Continue the tour for the next 30 km as you will be taken to the beautiful valley of Wadi Shab. You could take a leisure hike through the oases. The flora and fauna will keep you refreshed as you view the most amazing Wadi (small water pools), and the mountains.​ A popular tourist spot. Spend a quality time of 30 min in complete tranquility here. ​​
Qalhat Proceed about 25 km further to reach Qalhat where you’ll stop-by for 30 min. Qalhat is an ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The tour continues as you proceed to Qalhat, that was once a trade center. You would take a stroll through the remains of the city. ​ Take a stroll across the city. This will be followed by a drive along the magnificent coastal strip of white sand beaches!!​​
Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve Sanctuary Reach your destination of the day, Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve which is located roughly at a distance of 76 km from Qalhat, later this evening. Enliven your night while you watch the real Green Turtles LIVE! These turtles come from thousand miles to this shore to lay their egg. You will get a chance to see these creatures without endangering or disturbing their lives and birthing cycles. Also, you can visit the interactive museum, research laboratories and explore the plethora of ​information available if you are keen to learn more about these wonderful animals.​ You can click pictures and make videos BUT ​WITHOUT FLASH. You would spend a good I hr 30 ​min in the turtle reserve before you head back to ​Muscat.​

Wahiba Sands The Wahiba Sands is known for its exotic desert beauty. It is located at a distance of about 250 km from Muscat. You will travel from the hotel to the Wahiba Sands for a mesmerizing experience. You would go on a jeep-tour through the white, black, orange and golden dunes of the desert. Sit back and enjoy your ride as our skilled driver maneuvers through the ever-changing colours of the desert sand!​ You’ll enjoy a scenic jeep drive through the shining, golden sand dunes of Wahiba Sands. ​​
Visit a Bedouin settlement Visiting the Wahiba Sands calls for a stopover by a Bedouin family. Bedouins are the group of nomadic Arabic people who consider themselves as ‘true Arabs’!​ This stopover comes as an OPTIONAL one. If need be, you would halt for 30 min before ​proceeding to the next destination.​
Wadi Bani Khalid Travel about 120 km further to reach Wadi Bani Khalid. Wadi Bani Khalid, a picturesque wadi surrounded by green palm trees, sets the perfect example for a true oasis. The wadi comprises of small pretty villages embedded in between the mountains.​ Stop for 30 min here. Carry your swimsuit as the Wadi has clear deep blue, cool water that ​tempts you into diving right in!​​

Today, you’ll embark on a significant part of the trip as you visit the "Grand Canyon of Oman’ at Jebel Shams. Located at the north-eastern part of Oman, Jebel Shams is the highest peak of the country and the third-highest in the Arabian peninsula. This rugged region is a must-see for visitors as it offers a grand view of the canyons from there. Also, get ready to witness some historic moments as you visit the ancient towns of Nizwa and Al Hamra. Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman, was once a center for trade and education. It is a conservative town that accommodates some of the renowned mosques and an ancient fort called the Nizwa Round Tower Fort which you’ll be visiting, today. On the way to Jebel Shams, you also get to catch a glimpse of the farming village, Wadi Ghul, that is wedged in between the mountains. ​ The duration of today’s journey: 8 hours​ ​

Nizwa You will be driven to the historic town of Nizwa, Oman’s cultural capital as a first thing, this morning. It is located at a distance of about 160 km from Muscat. Nizwa is famous for its massive circular cannon tower, antiques and silver jewellery. You will visit the ancient Nizwa Fort whose history dates back to the 12th century. It was built by Sultan Bin Saif Yaruba, the first imam of the Yaruba Dynasty. When inside the fort, you’ll be thrilled to pass through its ancient doorways, narrow staircases and corridors, high-ceiling halls, and a maze of rooms. As Nizwa is a town that is surrounded by date palms, one can enjoy an amazing view of the entire town and its date plantation from the top of the tower. ​ You would then pass through the traditional Nizwa souk, a place where you find hand-carved ceremonial daggers, called the ‘khanjars’, and ornate silver jewellry. ​ Next, proceed roughly 70 km further to reach the town of Al Hamra.​ Fort timings: ​ Saturday to Thursday: Open from 9 am to 4 pm & Friday: Open from 8 am till 11 am. ​ Look from the top of the tower to enjoy a glimpse of the gorgeous mountains. And when in Nizwa, don’t forget to get some souvenirs back home!​​
Al Hamra Here, you will get to see 400-years-old, well-preserved, traditional mud houses, and experience the Falaj system. You stop by for 30 min here before heading off to the canyons.​
Wadi Ghul Continue the journey for the next 15 km until you enter Wadi Ghul. It a farming village nearer to our next destination, Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak. An abandoned village in the north-western region of Al Hamra town of Oman, Wadi Ghul is best known as ‘The Grand Canyon of Arabia’ or the ‘Omani Grand Canyon’.  ​
Jebel Shams​ Move approximately 40 km ahead to visit the ‘Grand Canyon of Oman’. Jebel Shams is a mountainous region in the AL Hamra town. It nestles the highest mountains of Oman and is an important tourist destination. The word ‘Jebel Shams’ translates into ‘Mountain of the Sun’ since it receives the first sunrise of the region. A moderate temperature of the mountains during the summers make it an ideal location to beat the Arabian heat. People coming here indulge in various activities including hiking, exploring near-by villages, camping and star-watching, night photography, etc. The stunning view of Al Nakhr Canyon or The Grand Canyon of Arabia from Jebel Shams is sure to leave you spell-bound!​ You’ll stop by for 45 min. Take a deep look into the Wadi Ghul from the canyons to enjoy a spectacular view!​

The day will be spent well by hopping from Muscat hotel to a few famous forts located at Nakhal and Rustaq while you pass through the hot springs of Ain Al Thowarah. You first drive to Nakhal, a charming town located in the Al Batinaj region of Oman. Tucked away by the palm grooves, and sighted with a backdrop of the Hajar Mountains, Nakhal comes as an important tourist destination in Oman as it comprises of a 350-year-old ancient fort. Similar to Nakhal, Rustaq is another ancient town which was the capital of Oman during the 17th century and you would be taken to Rustaq’s Al Hazm fort. Rustaq is also popular for its hot water springs that are said to possess therapeutic values! ​

Ain Al Thowarah After the fort visit, pass through a near-by winding road lined by palm trees that leads to the ‘Hot Springs of Ain Al Thowarah’. The springs that emerge from the Wadi walls is routed into a ‘falaj’ or water channel for irrigating the farms close-by. A popular picnic spot​​

The day-6 is totally about taking a city tour of Muscat that lasts 4 hours. You would leave the hotel as early as 8 am and reach for the Grand Mosque, a famous mosque in the town. The trip to the vibrant mosque is followed by a stop at Marina Al Bandar and indulge in some dolphin-watching activity. Following this, you would be taken to the Mutrah souk, a market sells a lot of eye-grabbing artefacts and other goodies that lure you into purchasing a thing or two.​ ​

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque The Mosque of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said one of the landmarks of Oman. Women entering the mosque must cover their hair, shoulders, and arms. They would have to be dressed in long pants or floor-length skirts. Men must wear long trousers and ​not shorts. They must also ensure that their shoulders are covered before entering the premises. If required, you could borrow rented outfits found at the entrance.​
Marina Al Bandar A place where one can find a wide range of water-sport adventures. Here, you’ll find yourself engrossed in a 2-hour dolphin-watching activity. You’ll have the time of your life watching the dolphins that visit the Arabian sea, from here. Every trip is not guaranteed of dolphin Sighting. Nevertheless, you would get a chance to view the scenic beauty of Oman’s capital area and experience the breath-taking views of some of its landmarks.
Mutrah Souq​ This Oman’s largest traditional Souq is the place for artefacts lovers. ​ Take home a few Omani artefacts, garments, jewels, spices, and oils. Don’t forget to bargain!​​

Sumhuram The remnants of Sumhuram which once served as a port for international frankincense trade network would narrate endless accounts of the heydays etched by this fortified hill city, adjacent to Khor Rori Creek. Sumhuram is located at a 30 km distance from Taqah. Enjoy a spectacular view and spot some beautiful birds like the flamingo in the lagoon.​
Wadi Dirbat A wadi that houses an amazing variety of plants, trees, birds, and flowers. You get to see the longest cave in the world. You get to view and cherish the fantastic views of the Dhofar Coastline and the Indian Ocean.​ A place for a fun picnic. Ain Razat It is the most important source of water supply in the Dhofar region. The water from here flows 7km, all the way to Al- Maamurah Palace, the Sultan`s residence in Salalah. Ain Razat is a place eminent for natural cave formation. Here you also get to enjoy a stunning view of crystal clear water that comes flowing through small streams from the mountains.​ Don’t miss to spot the white and magenta-coloured water lilies by the pool. ​​
Mughsayl Next visit a popular beach in the west of Salalah where you encounter the ‘blowholes’ like never before! When the sea waves hit the rocks, because of these blowholes, air and water are forced up the vent and hence come pushing up like a fountain. ​ Around Mughsayl, you earn good chances of spotting the famous frankincense trees. These are known to be the best in the world and has brought the region to great wealth thousands of years ago when frankincense was more valuable than gold.​ Enjoy a stroll across the white sands of the beach to leave your footprints behind!​​
Nabi Ayub grave This tomb is inside a Mosque and is the resting place of Nabi Ayub or prophet Job. It is a popular pilgrimage spot and the visitors would be required to be dressed modestly. ​ Last stop for the day.​​
